Impact of Significant Fires at Indiana University

Ava Dickerson posted " 1883 Fire !" on the Indiana University Archives blog, Blogging Hoosier History.  Her historical sketch describes the financial and cultural significance of the fire and how the citizens of Bloomington rallied to support the institution. Fires are often significant parts of institutional history and an earlier post on June 22, 2016, " A history of IU fires ," describes a number of fires on campus.

Lewis-Clark State College Honors Local Historian and Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1893 .    The institution was  founded as Lewiston State Normal School.  It became Northern Idaho College of Education in 1947 before changing its name to Lewis-Clark Normal School in 1955 and then Lewis-Clark State College in 1971. Local historian and retired educator Steve Branting was honored in late June 2018 with the title of “ Lewis-Clark State College Institutional Historian ” by college president, J. Anthony Fernandez.  Branting is an alum and is featured in an excellent video of the institution's history, " Definded by Perseverance ," that is available for viewing on YouTube . The Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History  will also offer  an exhibit, “ Town & Gown” 125 years of LCSC Campus and Community – an exhibit of celebration .” The exhibit will run from September 6th through October 27th at the Center, located in downtown Lewiston at 415

Flagler 50: Exhibition Marks 50th Anniversary of Flagler College

An exhibition " Flagler 50: Celebrating a College and a Preservation Legacy, 1968-2018 ” will open July 6, 2018 as part of the upcoming repertoire of 50th-anniversary celebrations at Flagler College.  The exhibit will be available through May 30, 2019, The opening of the exhibition was purposefully scheduled to coincide with the 100th birthday of college founder, Lawrence Lewis, Jr., the grandnephew of Henry Flagler.  Lewis was instrumental in fostering the restoration of many buildings in St. Augustine, not just the Hotel Ponce de Leon, that is now used by Flagler College.
