The Education Corporation of America headquarter in Birmingham, AL  announced today that it will close more than 75 sites  that enroll roughly 20,000 students.  The company began the process of notifying students and employees.  The sites include those operating as Brightwood College, Brightwood Career Institute, Ecotech Institute, Golf Academy of America and Virginia College. Fountainhead College of Technology in Knoxville, TN announced that it will be closing.  You can read a brief statement that is currently posted on the institution's website .   There is also a brief video posted by WATE , Knoxville's ABC affiliate, " Fountainhead College of Technology closing ." The institution was founded as the Tennessee Radio Service School in 1947 at 422 Gay Street in Knoxville.  The following year, the name was changed to Tennessee Institute of Electronics.  The name change once more to Fountainhead College of Technology in 2003. Fountainhead offered Associate Degrees in Electronic Technology, Information Technology, Computer Programming, and Health Information Management. Baccalaureate Degrees were awarded in Application Development, Electronic Wireless Communication, and in Network Security and Forensics.  Approximately 88 students were enrolled. Monica Kast of the Knoxville News Sentinel provides an extensive overview of events in " Johnson University celebrates 125 years with three days of events ," on October 24, 2018.  The institution was founded in 1893  as the School of Evangelists. It was later renamed to Johnson Bible College in 1909 and became Johnson University in 2011. You can visit university web pages devoted to the institution's 125 years of history for more information, presidential profiles, and a number of images of the campus. Johnson University enrollment in Knoxville is roughly 1,153 students with just over 800 enrolled in undergraduate programs.  There is also an additional site in Kissimmee, FL, operating since 1975 and incorporating the former Florida Christian College, with 200 students.

The Burritt Alumni Association is hosting its annual reunion t his Saturday, September 8th at 11:00 AM on former campus of Burritt College in Spencer, Tennessee.  The alumni association is inviting family and friends or anyone with  an interest in Burritt's history. $10.00 membership dues can be paid at the reunion and if you partake of the meal that is an additional $15.00.  The Burritt Alumni Association  maintains a  Facebook page  where you can find additional information . The Tennessean reports today that Belmont University and will acquire O'More College of Design  of Franklin, TN and move O'More's programs to Nashville, TN by fall 2018.  You can read an announcement on the Belmont web site, " Belmont University Acquires O’More College of Design, Move to Nashville Effective Fall 2018 ." O'More was founded as O'More School of Interior Architecture and Design in 1970.  It is a non-profit institution with enrollment of 170 students. Belmont traces its roots to Belmont Junior College that was founded in 1890.  It was known as Ward-Belmont after a merger with Ward Seminary in 1913.  Assets of the institution were then acquired by the Tennessee Baptist Convention which opened Belmont College in 1951.  Belmont became independent after 2005.  You can visit the Belmont website for an historical timeline . Tusculum College in Tennessee announced this week that it will change its name to Tusculum University beginning July 1, 2018 .  Tusculum is the " ...oldest institution of higher education in Tennessee, the twenty-eighth oldest in the nation, and the oldest coeducational institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). " Tusculum's traces its history to the founding of Martin's Academy in 1784, later renamed as Washington College.   It was later was known as Tusculum College after 1844.  Tusculum merged with Greeneville College in 1868 to become Greeneville & Tusculum College.  The name was shortened to Tusculum College in 1912.
