Saddleback College in Mission Viejo is beginning a yearlong celebration marking the 50th anniversary of its founding . The Saddleback Community College District was initially approved in 1967 and the first classes were held in the fall of 1968. Enrollment in the first year reached 1,500 students with staff of 34 full-time instructors and 30 part-time teaching faculty, along with 26 other employees. Today, over 27,000 students are served by approximately 1,300 faculty and staff. The college website offers a variety of historical resources that include, Making History, the First Years of Saddleback College , compiled by Lynn Wells and Julie Brady-Jenner and published in 2001. The college library maintains an archive of transcripts and videos from oral interviews documenting institutional history. Tidewater Community College is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968.  The institution is located in Virginia with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. TCC 50th anniversary web pages include more information on presidents who served the institution , a timeline of historical milestones , and fifty people who contributed in various ways to make TCC what it is today . East Central College in Union, MO is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968 with the first classes in fall 1969.  It opened as East Central Junior College and changed its name to East Central College in 1979. The 50th anniversary web page includes an event calendar and an historical timeline .

Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968.  The anniversary web pages include events scheduled to mark the milestone and a time line of key historical events.   The institution opened as Normandale State Junior College and changed its name to Normandale Community College in 1973.

Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968.  You can visit the  50th anniversary web pages  for access to a  centennial video , . pdf of a newspaper insert with timeline and historical photographs ,  web-based timeline , and a calendar of centennial events.

Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA was founded in 1947 and held its first classes the following year.  A history of the institution, " Tumbleweeds to Roses " covers the period from inception to 1963 and is available for viewing or download on the college website. A webpage created for OCC's 70th anniversary includes links to a variety of other information on the history of the college and the stories of students, faculty, and staff. The 70th anniversary pages include a link to a short four-minute video, " Tumbleweeds to Roses ," that includes a number of historical images.  You can also find Orange Slices , over 140 columns chronicling OCC’s history and many of its more remarkable and significant characters.  The columns were written by OCC’s long-time Director of Marketing and Public Relations – Jim Carnett between 2004 and 2008.

State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968 .    The anniversary page includes a list of activities scheduled during the 2018-2019 academic year.  A brief historical sketch is available on the college website  that includes names of presidents who have served the institution, Enrollment has grown to more than 13,758 students  and classes are offered online and through campuses in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, the Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, and Whiteman Air Force Base. The Sedalia Democrat published an article on the anniversary by Hope Lecchi, " A golden anniversary celebration for the community ," that includes several historic photographs.

Craig Huchison of Michigan's Press & Guide  provides an interesting historical sketch in " Henry Ford College celebrates 80 years and a rich legacy ."  Huchison reports that the main campus of the college comprises 75 acres that used to be the deer park of Henry Ford’s Fair Lane Estate and the Ford home lies on a short path behind the campus.  The article is accompanied by a number of historical photographs. The institution in Dearborn, MI was founded in 1928 as Fordson Junior College.  It closed briefly from 1943-1946 and reopened as Dearborn Junior College.  The name changed to Henry Ford Community College in 1952 and then to Henry Ford College after 2014. A March 2014 College History Garden post, " Henry Ford Community College Considers Change in Name (MI) ,"  provides information on the last name change and links to other historical information.

The Yakima Herald published an interesting article, " YVC past and future: College to expand to west campus ," with reporting by Tammy Ayer. Ayer interviewed a number of people associated with Yakima Valley College and provides an historical sketch of the institution through a focus on several campus buildings:  Prior Hall, Raymond Library, Kendall Hall, Kendall Auditorium, Larson Museum and Gallery, and the more recent West campus expansion. Yakima Valley College was initially founded in 1928 as a private two-year college. In 1948 it became a public junior college under the auspices of the Yakima School District and was known as Yakima Valley Junior College. In 1967 the Washington State legislature passed the Community College Act and YVC became a state community college under the jurisdiction of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Claire Lowe of the Press of Atlantic City reports that, " Cumberland and Gloucester county colleges take next step toward merger ." Lowe indicates that administrators of both institutions signed agreements to proceed with a merger by July 1, 2019. Inside Higher Ed 's Rick Seltzer also posted information on the merger in " New Jersey 2-Year Colleges Pursue Merger ," and indicates the merged institutions will be known as Rowan College of South Jersey. Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) is a collaboration between the former Gloucester County College and Rowan University.  Gloucester County College located in Sewell, NJ was founded in 1968.   Cumberland County College  of Vineland, NJ was founded in 1966. The Stanly News & Press published, " College has served Stanly since 1971 ," with an historical sketch of Stanly Community College of Albemarle, North Carolina written by Toby Thorpe. The institution initially offered classes in 1969 as the Stanly Adult Education Center.  In 1971 it became the Stanly Technical Institute.  The institution was renamed as Stanly Technical College in 1979 and Stanly Community College in 1986 as programs expanded and enrollment grew.

The Mankato Free Press published a retrospective article March 5, 2018, " Mankato site of state's first public vo-tech ," that provides a brief historical sketch for what is now South Central College. The institution was founded in 1946 as Mankato Vocational School, the first public, post-secondary vocational-technical school in the state. The name change in 1989 to Mankato Technical College. It merged in 1992 to become Albert Lea-Mankato Technical College. Three years later it joined MN State Colleges and Universities System in 1995. Following realignment, it joined with the Faribault campus of what had formerly been MN Riverland Technical College to become South Central Technical College. The name was changed in 2005 to South Central College. South Central College serves 5,090 students and offers 45 academic programs. It also serves over 9,000 additional people through customized training and continuing education programs.

North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Michigan is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding in 1958.  You can visit the 60th anniversary web page for more information .  NCMC's main campus remains in Petoskey and it also now operates centers in Cheboygan and Gaylord. The institution was initially known as Emmet Community College and adopted its present name in 1959. WCMU public radio station offers a post, " A Petoskey Based College Celebrates its 60th Year ," that includes a short audio clip highlighting the institution's mission and commitment over the years to the community it serves. 

Highland Community College in Highland, KS is celebrating the 160th anniversary of its founding in 1858 with a charter granted by the Kansas Territorial Legislature.  Highland Presbyterian Academy founded the previous year served as a foundation for the new institution.  The academy and small community that grew up around it served as a mission to Native Americans in the area.  There have been a number of changes in name during the institution's history : 1857 - Highland Presbyterian Academy 1858 - Highland University 1910 - Highland College 1921 - Highland Junior College 1929 - Northeast Kansas Junior College 1937 - Highland Public Junior College 1959 - Doniphan County Junior College 1965 - Highland Community Junior College 1980 - Highland Community College 

Napa Valley College, located in Napa and St. Helena, California, is currently in its 75th academic year and is now preparing for a 75th Anniversary Founders Day scheduled for April 14, 2018.  You can visit the institution's web site for more details.   The college includes an infographic timeline with key dates and interesting information on milestones.  The institution was founded as Napa Junior College in 1942.  The name changed to Napa College in 1962 and to Napa Valley College in 1982.  

The Daily Messenger of Canandaigua, NY reports in " FLCC to mark 50 years with time capsule, art exhibit, book release ," that Finger Lakes Community College will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Februar y 1st.  The college will host an event from 2:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a time capsule, availability of a new commemorative history book, and a gallery exhibit with works by art faculty members and their students. The college began offering non-credit classes in 1967 and admitted its first freshman class on February 1, 1968 .  It was initially known as Community College of the Finger Lakes.  The name changed to Finger Lakes Community College in 1992.  Classes are offered at seven locations with the main campus in Canandaigua, NY. The Fort Smith Times Record published a historical sketch of what is now the University of Arkansas Fort Smith on December 24, 2017, " UAFS has decades of history, stories to tell ."  The article by Thomas Saccente is part of a series of articles coinciding with the bicentennial of the founding of Fort Smith.  Saccente included comments by Billy Higgins co-author of an institutional history, along with Stephen Husarik and Henry Rinne, of The First 85 Years 1928-2012 .  UAFS was founded in 1928 as Fort Smith Junior Co llege.  It  became Westark Junior College in 1966. The name changed to Westark Community College in 1972 and to Westark College in 1998. Westark was then absorbed by University of Arkansas system and known as University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in 2002.

Nevada Public Radio's Yesterdays series featured histories of the state's institutions in recent programs. Great Basin College was the focus of a program on November 7th  with an emphasis on local leaders in Elko, NV who worked to establish the institution in 1967 as the first community college in the state.  Initially known as Elko Community College, the name changed to Northern Nevada College in 1973 and to Great Basin College in 1995. " UNLV at 60 " commemorates the first campus building that opened in 1957.  The post was published on October 27th and provides a sketch of the institution's history.  Extension classes were first offered by the University of Nevada, Reno in 1951 to serve the growing Las Vegas population.  The institution was first known as Nevada Southern University and changed the name to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1965.
