The University of Maryland's Special Collections and University Archives posted, " UMD’s Untold History ," to its Delve Deeper into History blog on November 13, 2018. The post provides an historical sketch of the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), now headquartered in Adelphi, MD, that was founded as the College of Special and Continuation Studies, or CSCS, within the University of Maryland's College of Education in 1947.  It separated from the College of Education in 1949, becoming a new college within the University of Maryland.  Then in 1957 it became a separate degree-granting college of the University of Maryland.  The name was changed in 1959 to University College.  Finally, in 1970, UMUC incorporated as University of Maryland University College independent of University of Maryland, College Park. Dartmouth in Hanover, NH is preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1769. The anniversary web page provides information on scheduled events, a short YouTube video, " Dartmouth 250: Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future ," and other resources. A new book, Dartmouth Undying: A Celebration of Place and Possibility , edited by David Shribman and Jim Collins is available now for pre-order. There will also be a “Hindsight is 20/19,” 26-episode podcast series celebrating Dartmouth’s history. Library staffers and students identified 25 tangible pieces, one per decade, central to the institution's history and will begin offering podcast episodes on each item in January 2019. Ball State University is celebrating the centennial anniversary of its founding.  The 100th anniversary web pages  offer links to a variety of resources including a short video, " From Normal to Extraordinary ," an updated centennial history , and links to various planned events. Frank C. Ball and his brothers purchased the land and buildings that previously served as Muncie Normal Institute and later, Muncie National Institute , two of several attempts to provide higher education in the city in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They donated the property to the state of Indiana which then opened the Indiana State Normal School Eastern Division in 1918. In recognition of the Ball family’s generosity, the Indiana General Assembly changed the school's name to Ball Teachers College in 1922, then Ball State Teachers College in 1929, and to Ball State University in 1965 . Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968.  You can visit the  50th anniversary web pages  for access to a  centennial video , . pdf of a newspaper insert with timeline and historical photographs ,  web-based timeline , and a calendar of centennial events.

Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA was founded in 1947 and held its first classes the following year.  A history of the institution, " Tumbleweeds to Roses " covers the period from inception to 1963 and is available for viewing or download on the college website. A webpage created for OCC's 70th anniversary includes links to a variety of other information on the history of the college and the stories of students, faculty, and staff. The 70th anniversary pages include a link to a short four-minute video, " Tumbleweeds to Roses ," that includes a number of historical images.  You can also find Orange Slices , over 140 columns chronicling OCC’s history and many of its more remarkable and significant characters.  The columns were written by OCC’s long-time Director of Marketing and Public Relations – Jim Carnett between 2004 and 2008.

Keystone College in La Plume, PA, near Scranton, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding in 1868 .  It was  founded as Keystone Academy and then rechartered as Scranton-Keystone Junior College in 1934. The name changed to Keystone Junior College in 1944 and to Keystone College in 1995. The 150th Anniversary web pages offer an extensive array of resources including a schedule of events, historical images and information, and an excellent short YouTube video, " Keystone College Past and Present ." The Times-Tribune of Scranton also published " Keystone College celebrates 150 years of changes ," by Sarah Hofius Hall that includes an historical sketch of institutional changes.

I love this wonderful 3:00 minute video history of Mills Library at Rollins College  in Winter Park, FL.  The video provides a brief overview for the changing role of a library on campus and includes an audio segment with President Eisenhower congratulating the college after the library opened. Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1893 .    The institution was  founded as Lewiston State Normal School.  It became Northern Idaho College of Education in 1947 before changing its name to Lewis-Clark Normal School in 1955 and then Lewis-Clark State College in 1971. Local historian and retired educator Steve Branting was honored in late June 2018 with the title of “ Lewis-Clark State College Institutional Historian ” by college president, J. Anthony Fernandez.  Branting is an alum and is featured in an excellent video of the institution's history, " Definded by Perseverance ," that is available for viewing on YouTube . New England College and the New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) announced that they intend to complete a merger of the two institutions by October 1, 2018.     New England College is located in Henniker, NH and was founded in 1946.  Located in Manchester, NH, the New Hampshire Institute of Art was initially founded in 1898 as the  Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences.   You can also read more about the planned merger in reporting by the New Hampshire Union Leader, " New England College, New Hampshire Institute of Art to merge ." The Board of Trustees for Marylhurst University announced this past week on May 17, 2018 that the institution will close.  The Marylhurst website includes links to additional information regarding the decision and a variety of resources for students, staff, or faculty .   Marylhurst University was founded in 1859 by the  Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary   as St. Mary's Academy in Portland, Oregon.  The institution became St. Mary's Academy and College in 1893.  The name changed to Marylhurst College in 1930 after move to Marylhurst, OR.  The name changed to Marylhurst Education Center in 1974, to Marylhurst College for Lifelong Learning in 1980, to Marylhurst College in 1992, and finally to Marylhurst University in 1998. Historic Eleutherian College, Inc. posted a link to a recent YouTube video interview from History in Your Own Backyard , " Eleutherian College, Lancaster, Indiana ."  The video runs for approximately 12 minutes and includes an interview with David Hardin of Historic Eleutherian.  There are also a number of internal and external views of the college building and surrounding grounds.  Hardin provides historical background on the founding of the college and the activities of the group dedicated to restoration of the property. Eleutherian College was founded by abolitionists in 1848, to serve as an educational institution for students regardless of race, gender, economics or religion. Kansas Newman University posted a couple of videos on Youtube that focus on the institution's history.  An initial introductory video of just over 6 minutes covers the founding of the religious order,  Sisters Adorers of the Most Precious Blood, that operated schools in various Kansas towns. The Sisters purchased property in Wichita, Kansas and s tarted St. John's Academy, a school for girls in 1902. A boy's school was added later. In 1923, Sacred Heart Junior College began and a 4-year baccalaureate program was offered after 1933. The name changed to Sacred Heart College in 1952. It was then renamed Kansas Newman College in 1973 and Newman University in 2000.
